Find the Power You Need for a Chaotic Life by Being Anchored In (& a book review)

When my daughter was little, her  “after school” future seemed far away. Not so anymore. We’re likely within a half year of that future being her present (although she “graduated” with her class last year, she is still attending classes).

The One Thing a Strong Woman Needs To Remember

The danger of being a strong woman is forgetting where our true strength lies. My hand in hers, I bent over her bed and rested my head on a pillow. I slumbered fitfully, waking often to nurses entering the room

Tears Water the Soil of Our Hearts

A natural crier, I often wish I could stop up the tears that seem to come so easily. Yet maybe it’s the tears we shed that water our parched hearts, preparing them to receive the seeds of growth God plants.

Sometimes We Need to See Differently (like these high school students did)

Sometimes appreciation only comes when we choose to see differently. Although my daughter is 18 years old, she speaks with the aid of an iPad. Rachel cannot tie her own shoes or completely dress herself. She has been diagnosed with significant intellectual

When the Unexpected Is Breaking You

God often uses the unexpected and the unwanted to bring about the best in our lives. But it requires us to let go first. Let go of our expectations. Let go of our perceptions. Let go of our perceived control. And

Where are you called to share God’s love?

“In the Kingdom of God, service is not a stepping-stone to nobility: it is nobility, the only kind of nobility that is recognized.” ~ T.W. Manson One boy went one direction; his brother went another. One chattered animatedly about dinosaurs; the

How to Thrive in the Aftermath of Interrupted Plans and Shattered Dreams

If we’re honest, we all experience it: the shattering of our dreams, an interruption in our well-planned life. It’s unexpected, many times devastating, and it often doesn’t make sense, humanly speaking.  Because most often our plans are good ones. They involve

Bring Light and Life into the Dark and Empty: Love Well

The idea of love appeals to nearly everyone. True love transforms lives, bringing light and life into the dark and empty. But few of us demonstrate love well.  We may do okay with our families and close friends, but universally, many

Celebrating Every Life (because every life matters)

This lovely song and video touched me deeply, stirring up emotions that rest dormant in my dailiness. Through tears of tenderness, I’m sharing this video with all of you who love someone who has special needs. And to you, Rachel:

Sometimes I Lose Sight of Hope, but He’s There (A Prayer)

“Are we willing to completely rely on God when nothing else makes sense?”–Jo Ann Fore, When A Woman Finds Her Voice Dear Lord, As I look at Rachel. Her well-formed body—outwardly complete, yet inwardly somehow different. I wonder, is this

Thanks for stopping!

Hello, I'm Julie, an imperfect wife and mother of four. Life in this broken world is not always easy. Yet, joy can be found in each day through the grace and mercy of the Lord Jesus Christ.

I find it's easy for our day's BLESSINGS to get lost in its HAPPENINGS. But God's "mercies never end" (Lamentations 3:22) and His "grace is sufficient" (2 Corinthians 12:9).

May the posts and pages on this site offer you a measure of peace and encouragement.
