When Your Faith Seems Too Small (a Prayer)

When Your Faith Seems Too Small (a Prayer)

2016 stretches ahead, beckoning as a clean slate. It’s my default to project it as a wondrous year, simple and fulfilling.

A Wondrous Year

Yet reality in a broken world says otherwise.

There will be sorrows and hurts and deep valleys. There will be ugliness. I can count on it.

But even in the face of that ugliness, I can count on my projection to be true as well.

Glory and wonder shine bright. Sometimes exposed in moments of sweetness. Yet sometimes buried under days of hard; sometimes masked by layers of hurt.

Still it’s always present.

And by faith we can experience it. The glorious wonder of a fractured world redeemed by the grace of a loving Savior.

It’s a gift like no other: In the midst of the dark, shines always a brilliant light. We can count on it!

Prayer for When Your Faith Seems Too Small

Father of all that was and is and is to come,
Sometimes we only see darkness; sometimes only fog.
Sometimes we struggle to see beyond the cloudy present.
We lose sight of the good.
But by faith, we can trust it’s there as our forefathers trusted.
By faith Noah built the ark.
By faith Abraham went out, not knowing where he was going;
by faith he offered up his son Isaac.
By faith Moses left Egypt behind;
By faith he led his people out of slavery.
And by faith we can trust that light still shines in the dark.
By faith we can trust that light will dispel the fog.
By faith we can trust there is clear sky to be found behind all the clouds.
But in those “sometimes,” Lord, our faith can seem so little.
Help us to know the sufficiency of Your grace.
Strengthen us when we grow weak and weary.
Open our eyes to the glory and wondrous hidden in each unlikely moment.
Open our eyes to see your glorious redemption in all we receive.
For in your mercy and love we rest.
In Jesus’ powerful name. Amen!
