When Light Seems Absent [New: Short Bursts of Encouragement Series]
Some days it seems the sun will never shine. Dark and dreary skies hang heavy. Weary days move into foreboding nights.
But regardless of what your feelings tell you, there is every reason to rejoice. Because darkness is temporary. That’s a promise.
The Light still shines, even when we can’t see its brilliance or feel its warmth.
Light can never be snuffed out. Darkness has already been defeated.
Light came for you and me. He pushed back the power of dark forever.
Light is everlasting. In His power, we will walk in glory for eternity.
So on those days when you wonder if the sun will ever shine again, take simple steps to remind yourself of this Truth. Create tangible reminders of His everlasting Light:
- Light a candle.
- Arrange a bouquet of yellow flowers.
- Put on worship music.
- Turn every light in the house on (just for a little while).
- Spend a half hour (or more) looking up Bible passages on light.
- Keep a portfolio of sunlight photos to pull out for a quick boost.

Let the truth of this promise push back the clouds and reveal the sun (Son)!
“Your sun will no longer set,
and your moon will not fade;
for the Lord will be your everlasting light,
and the days of your sorrow will be over.” Isaiah 60:20
Reflection: What are some other ways you can remind yourself of God’s everlasting light when the day looms dark? Lets encourage each other in the comments. And if you like what you’re reading, may I humbly ask you to share it with your people.
This is a new series I’d like to begin on Wednesdays sharing short bursts of encouragement. I envision each series post featuring a Scripture and photo you can download with a few words of encouragement from me, perhaps even a prayer, a recipe, a giveaway–anything to give your week a boost. I’d love to hear if this Short Bursts of Encouragement Series is … well … encouraging to you, and please pass on any topic ideas you may have.
