One Word You Can’t LIVE Without

For more than two weeks, I heard the same thing, “Chrisss”—many times a day, sometimes many times a minute. My daughter’s mind was stuck on one word: the name of one of her favorite respite providers she hadn’t seen in awhile but who she knew was coming soon.

Our entire family became weary of assuring Rach that yes Chris was coming in 2 weeks … 1 week … 3 days … tomorrow.

Yet I couldn’t help but marvel at the significance Rachel assigned to Chris’ name. She voiced it with love, excitement, delight, and expectancy.

Rachel presented an example for the way the Lord’s name should be hallowed.

Lord's name1

We often use the words grace, hope, faith and promise in Christian circles, and rightfully so. But the word that should roll off our lips most often is “Jesus.”

His name should be the first word uttered in the morning, the last word spoken at night. “Jesus” should be declared repeatedly and lovingly throughout the day. Display His name on the walls of your homes, and write it on the walls of your hearts.

Because in the name of Jesus there is power and beauty and majesty and mystery. There is compassion and love and grace and hope.

In Jesus our hope lies.

In Him we find protection from all evil.

In Him we find peace and comfort. In Him the power of sin and death has been defeated.

In Him we are transformed from a life lost to a life redeemed.

In Him alone we find salvation.

There are other words and names of significance in our lives—as there should be. But the most important word in every Christian’s vocabulary, the name above every name, the name that should be sung from mountaintops and declared in the depths of the oceans, is the name of Jesus.

Holy, Holy, Holy, worthy is the Lamb. Glorify His name forever!

Repeating Chris’ name expressed Rachel’s love for her and anticipation for her coming. How much more should we be repeating the Savior’s name?

For found in Jesus is LIFE.

“Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” (Philippians 2:9–11).

Reflections: Is the name of Jesus declared in your place of worship? in your home? from your lips? How is He glorified in your life?

  1. I ask the people at our church all the time what are they expecting? And they need to come with an expectancy that God is going to show up in a wonderful way. We need to rediscover that excitement and passion of expectancy that Rach had.

This resonates with my heart so deeply. I am deeply bothered by all the “OMG” that are being thrown around, especially by fellow believers. I think we have no idea how much we throw God’s name around… thank you for this beautiful reminder. Glad I came over from Rachel’s link up today. Blessings 🙂

  3. Thank you, Julie. In a world that endorses self as center, Christians need to be often reminded that our center is the Lord of the Universe.

It’s sad, Deb, that even among Christians, self often trumps the Lord. Hard to live in the Spirit and not the flesh. Blessed you stopped by.
