A Powerful Way to Witness (and Gain New Perspective) #31DaysofPraise

“He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see and fear and put their trust in the LORD.”
Psalm 40:3
security is in the Lord

This is it! The final post in the 31 Days of Praise series. I have to admit, I’m a bit sad. What a blessing it has been. Thanks for joining me this month! Oh, and may I let you in on a little secret: I don’t think you’ve seen the last of these praise images!

There have been many days when I didn’t feel like singing or praising. Circumstances weighed heavy.

But as I’ve discovered on this 31-day journey of praise, worshiping lifts some of that weight. Even better, if we have a desire to praise but no words, God will come to our aid.

God Will Give Us the Words of Praise

He will give us the words to sing if in our burdens they disappear. When we don’t have praise on our lips or hymns in our hearts, God will place them there.

Just look at this biblical account of supernatural praising!

“About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the other prisoners were listening to them.”
Acts 16:25
Paul and Silas had recently been beaten and imprisoned in a dank, horrific dungeon. Chained and in physical duress, the conditions couldn’t be much worse.

I can only imagine what I’d be thinking. I’m afraid I likely wouldn’t have a hymn on my mind. Instead I’d be bemoaning my fate.

Because when circumstances are difficult, I tend to complain to God instead of praise Him.

Yet what good does that do, really? It only makes me feel worse and certainly doesn’t instill hope in anyone else either.

Others Watch and Listen

You see, others are watching and listening. Even in prison they listened to the two sore yet hopeful disciples.

And they’re listening to me and you too. “Many will see and fear and put their trust in the LORD.”

You better believe I realize how hard it is to sing and praise when your heart is broken and everything looks hopeless. Near impossible really.

But if it were easy, no one would notice. If it were easy, we could do it in our own strength.

Witness in the Midst of Hard

Instead, by the grace of God, we can do the hard job of praising Him in even the most difficult situations.

Because God Himself puts the song in our mouths. He Himself gives us a hymn of praise when we have none.

And the beauty is others will notice.

Praising God in the midst of the hard not only blesses us with new perspective and attitude but is a witness to others as well.

So as we end this praise series, my prayer is that we each continue to sing and praise the Lord all the more. That in all circumstances, our constant worship will bring glory to God and draw others to Him.

Others are watching. May a hymn of praise be always on your lips.

Reflections: What has helped you praise God in the midst of the hard?
