The Lord Is My Strength #31DaysofPraise

“I will sing to the Lord,
for He is highly exalted;
He has thrown the horse
and its rider into the sea.
The Lord is my strength and my song;
He has become my salvation.
This is my God, and I will praise Him,
my father’s God, and I will exalt Him.
The Lord is a warrior;
Yahweh is His name.” Exodus 15:1-3

Lord's strength

Moments of our greatest weakness are opportunities for tapping into our greatest Strength.

Most of my life I’ve fought against being weak. Raised with older brothers, I grew a competitive spirit and an “I can do it” attitude.

So when things spiraled out of my control as a young wife, I fought hard against the feeling of weakness the circumstances ushered in. Yet the harder I fought, the weaker I grew.

Solid Rock of Strength

Finally at rock bottom, I found a solid rock of Strength that had nothing to do with my abilities.

And as I look back over the years I’ve walked with the Lord, those times of deepest sorrow have brought the greatest triumphs. Those times of utter weakness have brought greater strength.

Not because I’ve become stronger personally through the losses and struggles, but because I’ve become closer to the one who is my strength.

Trials blow away the shifting sand of self we try to stand on and expose the Solid Rock that was there all along. The Solid Rock, an everlasting hope for us desperate, weak people.

And I’m so very grateful.

Dear Father, There is nothing easy about the trials of this life. They hurt so very deep down. They seek to destroy our peace and happiness. We wonder how we’ll ever laugh again. Eventually the pain and sorrow drive us to our knees. And Lord, You know that’s where we find their blessing. That’s where we find our hope. On our knees we are forced to look up, and You are there. Always there. Waiting. Welcoming. Longsuffering, You wait patiently for us to give up our strength and embrace Yours. In You, we embrace a strength that brings back beauty and peace and joy.  O Lord, there is no one like You. You are worthy of all manner of praise. May our words and actions bless you, bringing glory daily to Your name. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen!

Reflections: Have you ever written a prayer of praise? If so, what was the catalyst for you writing it? If not, why not give it a try now! After all God is worthy of every manner of praise.
